Convert GPX File to ADM Using Garmin BaseCamp

There may be times that you want to use GPX user data in a Garmin chartplotter. Some chartplotters can only use ADM files so the GPX file needs to be converted first before you can use it.

As HomePort™ software is no longer available, you can convert the GPX file to ADM using BaseCamp™ software which is very similar.

Both steps of this process are outlined below.

Importing GPX File(s) Into BaseCamp Software

  1. Download BaseCamp software from here.
  2. Open BaseCamp program.
  3. Select the desired folder ( ) or list () to add the GPX data to.
  4. Select File from the top toolbar.
  5. Select Import into ['Name'].
  6. Browse to the GPX file location from the Import File window.
  7. Select Open (Windows) or Import (Mac).

The GPX data should now be contained in the selected folder or list.

Complete steps 3-7 for any additional files you want to import. When finished importing the desired files, proceed with the transfer steps below.

Transfer Imported GPX File(s) To a Chartplotter

  1. Remove the microSD card from the chartplotter.
    • NOTE: The card has to come from the chartplotter so it has its GarminDevice.xml file on it.
  2. Insert the microSD card into the computer, or into a connected card reader.
  3. In BaseCamp™, select the folder ( ) or list () containing the imported data you wish to transfer.
    • NOTE: To transfer all saved data, select My Collection.
  4. Select Device (Windows) or Transfer (Mac) from the top toolbar.
  5. Select Send to Device.
  6. Select Send ['Name'] to Device.
  7. Select the chartplotter to send the data to.
    • Mac Users: You also need to select checkboxes for the items to transfer.
  8. Select OK (Windows) or Send (Mac).

The data should now be written to the micro/SD card as an .ADM file.
