Installing Software Updates to the Montana 700 Series With Garmin Express

Garmin often releases updates to improve performance, correct operational issues, or add new features.

To update the software on your Montana® 700, 700i, 710, 710i, 750i, or 760i outdoor handheld the Garmin Express™ program can be downloaded and installed to your computer.

Updating Your Montana 700 Series Handheld With Garmin Express Software

1. You need Garmin Express software installed on your computer first. If you already have Garmin Express software installed, skip this step.

2. Connect your Montana handheld to the computer with the appropriate USB cable.

The Montana 700, 700i, and 750i use a micro USB cable:

3. The Garmin Express program will be launched during the installation process. If you already had Garmin Express software installed, launch Garmin Express.

Windows: Either double-click the Garmin Express icon in the system tray (next to your time), double-click the shortcut on the desktop, or search for Garmin Express in your Start menu.
Mac: The Garmin Express program can be found in the Applications folder in Finder.

4. Select the desired Garmin product, or click "Add a Device" and follow the on-screen prompts if your device is not listed.

5. The Garmin Express program will then display the available updates. Select "Install" or "Install All" to begin the update(s).

If it says you are up to date, then your device is on the most current version(s).

• View Details shows details on the specific updates (software, GPS or map)

• Map Details shows what maps are preloaded in your device. If you click on it and then Options, this will allow you to reinstall any maps that are already up to date. For the Montana 700i and Montana 750i handhelds you will also have the option of installing City Navigator® maps to the computer. • Manage Maps is a new feature for managing your preloaded maps. For more information and steps, see - Managing Maps with the Montana 700 Series.

6. Review the terms and conditions and click "Accept" to proceed.

7. Review the important notes before continuing, then click "Continue".

8. Once the update starts, the Garmin Express program will display the current progress.

Hover your mouse cursor over the progress bar for detailed progress information.

9. You will see an "Updates Complete!" message when the update is finished.

10. Once complete, disconnect your Montana handheld from the computer and power it on to make sure the software updates installed successfully.

You may have to select Install on the device to fully install the updates.
