"Not enough space on disk" error when running WebUpdater

Description


The error Not enough space on disk may occur when there is not enough space on the Garmin device to run a software update.


Resolution


To resolve this issue, free up some space in the Garmin device's internal memory. Files that can be deleted:

  • Voice
  • Text
  • Help
  • Vehicle Icons
  • JPEG Pictures

Follow these instructions to delete these files.


Windows:

  1. Connect the device to the computer
  2. Press Win + E
  3. Open the Garmin device
  4. Open Internal Storage (MTP mode devices only)
  5. Look for the voice, text, help, vehicle, and JPEG/Pictures folders1
    • If folders are not here, double-click on the Garmin folder
  6. Open each of these folders to look for unwanted files to delete
  7. Select the file(s) to delete
  8. Press Delete on the keyboard
  9. Select Yes to confirm, if prompted when deleting the files
  10. Repeat Steps 7-9 to delete additional files
  11. Run WebUpdater again


Mac:

  1. Open Finder
  2. Click Go in the menu bar
  3. Click Computer
  4. In this window, open the Garmin device
  5. Look for the voice, text, help, vehicle, and JPEG/Pictures folders1
    • If folders are not here, double-click on the Garmin folder
  6. Open each of these folders to look for unwanted files to delete
  7. Drag any unwanted files to the Trash
  8. Empty the Trash
    1. Click Finder in the menu bar
    2. Click Empty Trash
  9. Run WebUpdater again


After deleting some of the voice, text, help, vehicle, and JPEG picture files, the error Not enough space on disk will not occur when running WebUpdater.

1 Keep the files that are being used on the device. For example, if the American English voice files are being used on the device, be sure to keep the files that are named American English.
