Preventing the Tr-1 Gold from getting stuck at the engine stops

The TR-1 Gold Autopilot installs with a compatible kicker engine to steer a vessel at low speeds.

The TR-1 Gold is able should be able to steer the engine all the way from the port stop to the starboard stop while moving freely. If the autopilot is getting stuck at one of the engine stops, that is an indication that part of the autopilot system is not working properly. The following troubleshooting steps should correct this issue.

  1. Make sure that the kicker engine is not raised via a lift at all. The engine needs to be parallel to the water line in order for the autopilot to operate properly.
  2. If applicable, verify that the kicker engine's self-tightening tensioner is loose. Not every engine will have a self-tightening tensioner. Normal vibrations from the engine can cause this tensioner to re-tighten. It may be necessary to loosen this part occasionally to ensure normal operation.
  3. If neither of the first two solutions correct this issue, that is an indication that the TR-1 Gold hydraulic pump or bypass is failing. If this is the case, you will need to contact Marine Product Support to set up a repair for parts.
