Connecting Subwoofers to a Fusion® Monoblock Amplifier with 4 Speaker Terminals
Fusion® Signature Series Monoblock Amplifiers have two positive (+) and two negative (-) speaker terminals. These terminals are each linked to their counterparts (+ to + and - to -) internally to provide a parallel configuration. This is ideal for connecting a single subwoofer with a dual voice coil, or for connecting multiple subwoofers as it lowers resistance, measured in ohms. Most subwoofers will provide a resistance of 4 ohms, though the Signature Series monoblock is able to accommodate between 1 and 8 ohms of resistance.
The diagram demonstrates a standard connection to a single subwoofer. This is done by connecting the negative (-) terminal from the subwoofer to the left negative (-) terminal on the amplifier, and the positive (+) terminal from the subwoofer to the right positive (+) terminal on the amplifier.
Subwoofers can also be run in parallel on the Signature series monoblock amplifier. Connecting one subwoofer's negative (-) and positive (+) terminals to the leftmost negative (-) and positive (+) terminals on the amplifier, and connecting the second subwoofer to the rightmost terminals on the amplifier will have the two subwoofers in parallel. This will lower the resistance on the subwoofers by half, so the connected subwoofers can have a built-in resistance of no less than 2 ohms to prevent the overall resistance from going below 1 ohm.
Up to 4 subwoofers can be connected to a single Signature Series monoblock amplifier by wiring each pair in parallel before connecting them in parallel configuration to the amplifier. This is done by connecting each pair of subwoofers in parallel, and then connecting the wires in the configuration shown above. The subwoofers must have a native resistance of no less than 4 ohms so as to prevent the overall resistance from going below 1 ohm. See Related Content for more information on connecting speakers in parallel.
Note:
- If connecting more than 1, an odd number of subwoofers should never be connected to the Signature Series monoblock amplifier
- No more than 4 subwoofers should be connected to the Signature Series monoblock amplifier
- If a subwoofer with a native resistance of only 1 ohm is connected to the Signature series monoblock amplifier, no further subwoofers should be connected
