Automotive Device Alerts When Going Over the Speed Limit

Your Garmin automotive device has the ability to provide a visual alert when you exceed the speed limit.

When set to a European locale, your device will also have the ability to emit an audible alert.  If the locale on these devices is set to a country outside of Europe (including the United States), the device will not provide audible speed alerts. A non-European device when set to Europe locale may emit audible speed alerts, but it is not guaranteed.

To Change the Locale:

  1. Touch Settings
  2. Touch the  menu button
  3. Touch Restore
  4. Touch Yes to confirm
  5. Select the desired locale when prompted
  6. Select the desired language when prompted

When using a European locale, the audible speed alert on the above devices may be disabled or enabled as desired.

To Turn Audible Speed Alerts On or Off:

  1. Touch Settings
  2. Touch Map & Vehicle
  3. Scroll down to Audible Speed Alerts
  4. Check or uncheck the box as necessary

If you are going over the speed limit, your current driving speed will display in red text, or the speed limit data field will turn red, regardless of locale setting.

Garmin does offer a free application called  Points of Interest (POI) Loader that allows you to load custom points of interest to your device. These custom points of interest can include custom alerts such as speed alerts. If you are interested in creating your own custom speed alerts, you can find more information in Creating Custom POI Files.
