If you need to pair a Forerunner 945 to a smartphone through the Garmin Connect app, you need to turn on the Bluetooth pairing mode on the watch. Turning on pairing mode will trigger a Bluetooth beacon signal that the Garmin Connect app will look for. Steps to Enable Pairing Mode on a Forerunner 945 Watch

  1. Press and hold the UP key (middle left key) to access the settings menu.

  2. Use the DOWN key to scroll down and select Phone.

    • If you see Pair Phone, select this. Your watch will now be in pairing mode. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

  3. Scroll down and select Pair Phone.

The watch will now be in Bluetooth pairing mode.

NOTE: You must pair the watch through the Garmin Connect app and not directly to the phone through Bluetooth settings.
