My Automotive Device Doesn't Speak Street Names
Garmin automotive GPS devices that have the ability to speak street names are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (for example, it will say "Turn right in 500 feet" instead of "Turn right at Metcalf Avenue"). If one of the pre-recorded voices has been selected, it will not speak street names.
To hear the name of the street spoken, you will need to select a voice on the device that will be shown with the following label:
- Speaks Street Names
To change the voice language:
- Touch Settings
- This is typically symbolized with a wrench icon
- Touch Locale or Language
- Touch Voice or Voice Language
- This is symbolized by a pair of lips on some devices
- Touch the desired language1 that is tagged Speaks Street Names
- Touch OK
The device will now give directions speaking street names in the selected voice language.
1If you do not see any voice language options with these labels, you will need to download additional voice languages from Garmin Express. For instructions, see Related Content.
