Testing Satellite Connection of GLO in Windows using Putty

Follow these Steps to Verify that the GLO is Installed properly and Receiving Satellite Data:

  1. Pair the GLO to a Windows PC. NOTE: GLO IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 10.

  2. Right-click the 'Bluetooth Devices' icon in the Windows taskbar tray and select 'Show Bluetooth Devices'.

  3. Right-click the icon labeled 'Garmin GLO' and select 'Properties' (NOTE: It is normal for the GLO to be listed as a headset).

  4. From the 'Properties' window, select the 'Hardware' tab.

  5. Make note of the lowest COM port number listed, then highlight the COM port and click 'Properties'.

  6. From the 'Properties' windows, select the 'Port Settings' tab and make note of the 'Bits per second' (Baud Rate). If issues occur with the default setting, try changing the Baud Rate to "4800".

  7. If needed, the COM port of the device can also be changed by selecting ‘Advanced’ from the ‘Port Settings’ screen and changing the COM port number in the bottom left dropdown menu.

  8. Once these settings have been set and noted, open Putty.

  9. In Putty, select 'Serial' under 'Connection Type' and enter the previously noted COM port number and Speed (Baud Rate).

  10. Click 'Open' to view and verify that NMEA data is streaming properly from the GLO.

If the Putty window is showing information as seen in the picture above, then the device is working properly and should be accessible to 3rd party programs.
