PRODUCTS AFFECTED:

GTX 345/345R/345D/345DR/45R, GDL 88(H)/84(H), GNX 375, GTS 800/820/850, and GTS 825/855/8000 units (with software listed in Table 1) using ADS-B IN are affected.

ISSUE:

Slow-moving (less than 20 knots) 1090ES ADS-B and ADS-R surface targets may erroneously appear as directional. Figure 1 shows an example traffic display with both slow-moving directional and non-directional surface traffic. The selected surface target is erroneously shown with a directional symbol while the surface target near the top is correctly shown with a non-directional symbol (diamond).

NOTE
Airborne and UAT targets are not affected.

PILOT ACTION:

Be aware that directionality of slow-moving (less than 20 knots) ADS-B In surface targets may be shown erroneously.

NOTE
The ADS-B SURF traffic display is to be used only to supplement what can be seen out the window (AC 90-114B section 2.4.3).
