What Are Breathing Variations?

The Breathing Variations feature tracks and reports shifts in your breathing patterns during sleep. You can view this information with your sleep data on a compatible device or in the Garmin Connect™ app.

How Does This Feature Work?

When measuring Pulse Ox during sleep, your compatible Garmin watch can measure your breathing variations. You can see these variations with your sleep data on the watch, Garmin Connect (web), or the Garmin Connect app (as shown below). Breathing Variations can also be shown on your sleep stages graph. The recorded levels are:

  • Minimal

  • Few

  • Occasional

  • Frequent

Lifestyle factors, your sleep environment, or other issues can cause frequent Breathing Variations. If you have concerns about the level of breathing variations, consult your doctor.

What Are the Requirements to Use This Feature?

To get Breathing Variations during sleep, ensure the following:

  • Your watch is compatible (see the list above).

  • Your watch has the latest software installed.

  • The Garmin Connect app is up to date. (Check your app store for updates.)

  • Pulse Ox is enabled for Sleep Mode or All-Day Mode. (Search "Pulse Ox" in your owner's manual for instructions.)
