Understanding Pedal Smoothness and How It Is Calculated by Vector Power Meter Pedals
The Pedal Smoothness1 metric is calculated on dual sided Vector Power Meter Pedals by dividing the average power (Pavg) by the peak power (Pmax) across one crank cycle (see the diagram below). It is a measurement of how evenly power was applied throughout all 360 degrees of a pedal stroke.
The shape of the power curve and the resulting value of Pedal Smoothness will vary depending on the style of pedaling.
.
Pedal Smoothness = (Pavg/Pmax) x 100
Compatible head units when running the latest available software can display Pedal Smoothness by enabling the feature following these steps:
- Navigate to your sensors details page and select your connected Vector Power Meter
- Select Sensor Details
- Select Vector Features
- Toggle "Torque Effect. Pedal Smooth. to the on position
