Which GPS devices go into mass storage mode when connected to the computer?

Most newer Garmin GPS devices go into mass storage to communicate with Garmin software applications.

USB mass storage is the default setting for the following devices:

  • Camper/RV series1
  • dezl series1
  • dezlCam1
  • LIVE series
  • nuvi series1
  • nuviCam1
  • StreetPilot c500 series
  • zumo series1
  • All Edge models, except 205 and 305
  • Forerunner 10, 15, 110, 210, 220, 620, and 920XT
  • vivosmart2
  • vivoactive
  • Colorado series
  • Oregon series
  • Dakota series
  • GPSMAP 62 series
  • GPSMAP 78 series
  • GPSMAP 64 series
  • Approach series
  • Montana series
  • Monterra1
  • Foretrex 301 and 401
  • eTrex 10, 20 and 30
  • Rino 610, 650 and 655t
  • Astro 320
  • Alpha 100
  • quatix
  • fenix/D2/tactix
  • fenix 2
  • fenix 3
  • epix

Devices with removable storage (x-series outdoor devices) are able to go into mass storage by selecting the option on the Setup-Interface page.

1Some Camper/RV, dezl, dezlCam, Garmin Drive, Garmin DriveAssist, Garmin DriveLuxe, Garmin DriveSmart, nuvi, nuviCam, zumo, outdoor and fitness models, when connected to a computer running Windows, will go into MTP mode instead of mass storage mode. 2In order to put vivosmart into USB mass storage mode, touch and hold the battery icon while the device is connected to the computer

When connected to a computer, the following devices will provide you a choice of either Garmin mode or USB mass storage mode:

  • StreetPilot 2730
  • StreetPilot 2820
  • StreetPilot 7000 series
  • nuvifone
