Does Garmin have any automotive GPS devices that alert you when you are going over the speed limit?

Many of Garmin's automotive devices will provide a visual alert when you exceed the speed limit. Some devices will also have the ability to emit an audible alert.

Devices that currently provide an audible speed alert are as follows:

  • Camper/RV series1

  • nuvi 2300 series1
  • nuvi 2400 series1

  • nuvi 2407 series1
  • nuvi 2408 series1

1 devices' If the locale on these devices is set to a country outside of Europe (including the United States), the device will not provide audible speed alerts. A non-European device when set to Europe locale may emit audible speed alerts, but it is not guaranteed.

To change the locale for any of the above devices:

  1. Touch Tools
    • Skip this step on some devices
  2. Touch Settings
  3. Touch the menu button (three horizontal lines)
  4. Touch Restore
  5. Touch Yes to confirm
  6. Select the desired locale when prompted
  7. Select the desired language when prompted

When using a European locale, the audible speed alert on the above devices may be disabled or enabled as desired.

To turn audible speed alerts on or off on the Drive 40, 50, 60, DriveAssist 50, DriveLuxe 50, DriveSmart 50, 60, and 70:

  1. Touch Settings
  2. Touch Map & Vehicle
  3. Scroll down to Audible Drive Alerts
  4. Check or uncheck the box next to Speed Limit Exceeded

To turn audible speed alerts on or off on the Camper/RV 660, 760, dezl 570, 760, 770, dezlCam, nuvi 55, 56, 57, 58, 65, 66, 67, 68, 2405, 2407, 2408 2505, 2507, 2508, 2509, 2609, 2707, 2708, 2709, 3400, 3500, 3507, 3508 series, and nuviCam:

  1. Touch Settings
  2. Touch Map & Vehicle
  3. Scroll down to Audible Speed Alerts
  4. Check or uncheck the box as necessary

To turn audible speed alerts on or off on the dezl 560, LIVE 2300 series, nuvi 2200, 2300, and the 2400 series:

  1. Touch Tools
  2. Touch Settings
  3. Touch Navigation
  4. Touch Car (If the device is a dezl 560, choose the relevant vehicle as necessary)
  5. Scroll down to Audible Speed Alerts
  6. Touch Enable or Disable

The following devices will display a visual alert when you exceed the posted speed limit:

If you are going over the speed limit while using one of the above series of devices, your current driving speed will display in red text or the speed limit data field will turn red.1

Garmin does offer a free application called POI Loader that allows you to load custom points of interest to your device. These custom points of interest can include custom alerts such as speed alerts. If you are interested in creating your own custom speed alerts, you can find more information here.
