Showing and Hiding Items on the Garmin Explore Website Map

The Garmin Explore™ website map page has many controls for filtering or toggling item visibility from the map itself. This can be helpful for showing or hiding specific items to declutter the map.

NOTE: Date and time stamps will be displayed using the time zone your computer or mobile device is set to, which may differ from date and time provided by the handheld device.

Toggling Visibility for Items on the Map

The Garmin Explore website map features the ability to toggle visibility of certain categories and collections within the Library.

  • Garmin Explore Website Map Category Showing to the right of the category or Collection name indicates those items are currently toggled on and showing.

  • Garmin Explore Website Map Category Hidden to the right of the category or Collection name indicates those items are currently toggled off and hidden.

There is a hierarchy with the Library and Collections for toggling item visibility. All data items are stored in the Library and then further organized into Collections. The Library section contains all of your Waypoints, Tracks, Routes, Activities, and Courses. If a category is set to Garmin Explore Website Map Category Hidden then all items in that category will be hidden, even if some of the items are in a Collection that is set to Garmin Explore Website Map Category Showing. This is because the visibility toggle for Library categories takes precedence over the visibility toggle for Collections. See the examples below for more information.

Examples of Toggling Item Visibility

Example 1

In the below image, the Waypoints category in the library is set to Garmin Explore Website Map Category Hidden. These waypoints are stored in the Library and further organized into the Sent to MapShare™ collection which is set to Garmin Explore Website Map Category Showing.
Garmin Explore Website Map Library Waypoints Hidden
Result: All waypoints are now hidden from the map. The waypoints that are in the Sent to MapShare Collection are hidden from the map with this setting because the visibility toggle for the waypoints category in the Library takes precedence over the Sent to MapShare visibility toggle.

Example 2

In the next image below, the Sent to MapShare Collection is set to Garmin Explore Website Map Category Hidden and the Waypoints category in the Library is set to Garmin Explore Website Map Category Showing.
Garmin Explore Website Collection Hidden
Result: Only the waypoints in the Sent to MapShare Collection are now hidden from the map. Any other waypoints not in the Sent to MapShare Collection are still showing on the map because the waypoints category in the Library is still set to show on the map.

NOTE: If the item you are trying to hide is in multiple Collections, all Collections containing that item need to be hidden.

Toggling Track Visibility

By default, all tracks are set to appear on the map tab of the Garmin Explore website. If your track summary appears in the library, but does not appear on the map when selected, you may need to toggle the visibility on.

  1. Select Target with black circle to center the map.

    • This centers the map over the most recent track created by the device to MapShare™, the most recently imported track to the account, or the most recent message sent that included location.
  2. Select Plus sign in a circle so that the track expands.

Once this is done, the icon should now be Minus sign in a circle.
