Using the Group Ride App on the Tread
The Group Ride App on the Tread® GPS Navigator and all models in the Tread® series allows you to coordinate rides and communicate with nearby riders using preset text messages, live map locations, and voice communications.
Also, the zūmo® XT and zūmo® XT2 GPS navigators and any of the Tread series devices with a group ride radio would be able to join a group ride together.
It's the same with the Tread app. Any phone/tablet that is compatible with the Tread app and is within their mobile data coverage area will be able to join a group ride. The Tread app does not require a device to join a group ride.
NOTE: Group Ride Radio (5.5") (Sold separately) for the Tread® - Base Edition and zumo XT.
Group Ride Radio (6", 8", and 10") (Sold separately) for the Tread® 2, Tread® - Overland Edition, Tread® XL - Baja Chase Edition, Tread® XL - Baja Race Edition, Tread® XL - Overland Edition, and zumo XT2 is required to use most of the Group Ride features. Tread® devices that are not using a Group Ride Radio are able to host/join a group with Tread® app and will get group updates, but will not receive messages or voice.

Up to 20 riders can join a Group Ride.
Icons for other vehicles will be visible on the map screen as you ride.
Rider colors cannot be changed.
Group Ride leader is blue.
Other rider colors are randomly assigned.
Users should be close together (within Wi-Fi range) when setting up a Group Ride.
New riders can be added by any nearby member of the group once a Group Ride has started.
Group members will be alerted a new rider has joined once they are in radio range of the new rider.
Range performance varies based on terrain and other line-of-sight limitations.
Each group ride participant will only know positions of others within their radio range.
Depending on terrain (hills, trees, etc.) each rider may only know the position of some of the riders within the group.
The Tread or zumo XT/XT2 must be mounted with the antenna properly installed before starting a Group Ride.
The default map view for Groups Rides is "Auto Zoom to Group".
The map will automatically zoom in and out based on the location of active riders.
See the Owner's Manual for instructions to adjust the map view for Group Rides.

Troubleshooting a Group Ride 'Unknown' Message:
- Ensure the Group Ride Radio is connected to power.
- The Group Ride Radio needs to be used in the same region where it was purchased.
- If a rider is not present, they will be shown as an "unknown" status.
- From an active radio group ride, if a member exits the group, an "exit" flag is not sent.
- To others, that rider simply transitions from an active state such as moving, or stopped, to a stale state after no updates for 60 seconds, to 'unknown' after a few minutes.
