Understanding How a Heart Rate Monitor Strap Records Data

Garmin heart rate straps feature contact patches on the inside of the strap that detect the electrical signal transmitted through the heart muscle when it contracts. This signal is analyzed by the module on the strap which sends this information via ANT+ to your Garmin device where you can keep track of your heart rate during an activity.
