Using BaseStation Mode on a Compatible Astro Dog Tracking Handheld
Coordinating efforts requires the right tools. The BaseStation feature provides the ability to connect an Astro® dog tracking handheld1 to a computer to view contacts and dogs on a larger display.
Before using BaseStation Mode having the following:
- Appropriate USB cable
- Download and install the latest BaseCamp™ software2
- Ensure the handheld is up to date using Garmin Express™ software
To use BaseStation with a compatible Astro handheld:
- Turn on the Astro and enable BaseStation mode:
- Navigate to the Main Menu
- Select Setup
- Select System
- Select BaseCamp™ BaseStation
- Select Prompted
- Connect the Astro handheld to the computer
- On the device, select Yes to enable BaseCamp™ BaseStation mode
- In the BaseCamp™ program, wait for device to appear below the Devices heading
- Under the device name, select the BaseStation folder
- Select contacts to view them on the map
Paired dogs that are being tracked and available contacts are now viewable within BaseCamp™. You must be within communication range of collars or contacts in the field in order for the Astro, that's using BaseStation mode, to update the information.

2 Tablets that meet the system requirements for BaseCamp™ and have a USB port can be used to run BaseStation mode.
