"Can't Unlock Maps" on the Alpha models
If your Garmin Alpha® dog tracking handheld displays the message "Can't Unlock Maps", you will want to perform the following to resolve the issue depending on your circumstance.
I only have the pre-installed Topo map on my Alpha
- Download and install the latest software version with Garmin Express™

I purchased downloadable maps through Garmin.com
- Download and install the latest software version with Garmin Express

- Download your purchased map again

I purchased a map on a preloaded microSD card
- Download and install the latest software version with Garmin Express

- Confirm the issue is with the card by removing the microSD card from the Alpha and powering the unit on. If the message no longer appears, the issue with with the microSD card
- If your issue persists: Follow information below based on your circumstance
- MicroSD card was purchased directly from Garmin: contact Garmin Support.
- MicroSD card was not purchased directly from Garmin:
- Pre-programmed Garmin Map card: Work with the dealer that sold the card to get a replacement
- Pre-programmed third party map card, such an onXmaps: Work with the dealer or company that supplied the card
- Pre-programmed Garmin Map card: Work with the dealer that sold the card to get a replacement
- MicroSD card was purchased directly from Garmin: contact Garmin Support.
