What Is the Sound Coming from My Wheel-On Trainer?

The sounds heard while cycling on a wheel on trainer can be caused by all the moving and rotating parts. The faster you go, the more sound the trainer will emit. This FAQ will explain the key factors that play a role in the common sounds you may hear while using Tacx® trainers.

Choice of Tire

We recommend the use of a trainer tire which is quieter when compared to a standard outdoor tire. A trainer tire has a smooth surface reducing the sound produced by the tire and trainer roller.

NOTE: Make sure the tire is inflated to the max pressure recommendation printed on the tire sidewall.

Diameter of the Trainer Roller

The roller is where the tire makes contact with the trainer. The smaller the diameter of the roller the more revolutions during use. This will increase the sound levels created by the trainer.

Outer Casing of the Trainer

Some trainers are equipped with an outer casing around the resistance unit which will reduce the sound.

I Hear a Clicking Sound Coming From the Trainer

A clicking sound coming from a basic trainer means that the white roller has come loose from the metal sleeve that surrounds it.

I Hear a Buzzing or Whistling Sound Coming From the Trainer

Check the following:

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a problem with the bearing block and the resistance unit may need to be replaced.
