Limitations when Using an Automotive Device to View Topo, Marine, US TrailMaps, or Rails-to-Trails Maps

Topo, Marine, US TrailMaps, or Rails-to-Trails maps for a compatible automotive device may function with limited compatibility when viewing the map on the device.

NOTE: The nüvi® 500, nüvi® 550, Garmin DriveTrack™ 70, Garmin DriveTrack™ 71, Overlander®, Tread® GPS navigator and all Tread® series, and zūmo® XT and zūmo® XT2 will not experience many of these limitations.

Ensure Compatibility Before Purchasing any Supplemental Maps for Your Garmin Device. This can be Done in one of two Locations:

  • Compatible Devices tab when viewing any map's product page
  • Compatible Maps tab when viewing any device's product page

Topo maps will provide access to very basic information such as terrain contours, elevation information, trails, and rivers. Garmin Lakes (formerly Inland Lakes) and Upper Midwest Fishing Guide will provide access to the basic shoreline and depth detail and limited points of interest. US TrailMaps and Rails-to-Trails maps will provide access to the basic trail outline and/or limited Points of Interest.

There are certain elements of these map products designed for use on dedicated Outdoor and Marine GPS products which will not be displayed on an automotive device. Use these map products on a dedicated Outdoor or Marine GPS product to experience the highest level of detail and functionality.
