Delta Inbounds Accuracy and Interference

The accuracy of the Delta Inbounds™ wireless pet containment system is generally within a 3-foot zone, however, some inaccuracies can be expected. Mark the flags where the corrections occur so that with proper training, the dog knows the exact boundary. The maximum range is 170 feet in ideal, unobstructed conditions.

To avoid any accidental correction or lack of correction, the area should be examined for possible interference objects.  It is recommended to walk the entire boundary, with the collar in hand, to determine any escape zones or interference prior to training the dog.  Also, ensure that the base unit is placed at least 5 feet off of the ground and away from metal objects.  As the device operates with 2.4Ghz, items in between the base unit and the dog device can cause interference with the range and correction.

Items that can cause interference:

  • 2.4Ghz radio signal devices (cordless phones or a garage door opener)
  • Wi-Fi or W-Fi operated device, such as refrigerator, stove, , or any other household appliance that has Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Zigbee home automation
  • Microwaves
  • Large objects such as a shed, metal structure, or car as they can reflect radio waves (See images below)
  • Hills or slopes in the ground can also interfere if they block line of sight (See image below)

In a situation where there is an area within the boundary that you do not want the dog to go, or an area at the border of the boundary that the dog appears to be able to escape through  without correction, use of a Keep Away Tag can help. See related content on setting up Keep Away Tags.
