My Automotive Device Doesn't Speak Street Names

Garmin automotive GPS devices that have the ability to speak street names are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (e.g. "Turn right in 500 feet").

If one of these pre-recorded voices has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.

To Change the Voice Language on your Device:

  1. Touch Tools
  2. Touch Settings
  3. Touch Language
  4. Touch Voice
    • Some devices will call this Voice Personality or Voice Language
      • Not all devices require this step.
  5. Touch the desired voice
    • Select a voice labeled TTS or Speaks Street Names
      • If you do not see any voice language options with these labels, you will need to download additional voice languages from Garmin Express
  6. Touch OK

The device will now give directions with street names in the selected voice language.
