"Lost ECU" or "Lost Autopilot" Appearing on a GHP 10 Autopilot

These messages typically indicate a power issue that has caused the GHP 10's Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to reset. If the message occurs during heavy hydraulic load, such as driving up against the rudder stops, the high currents and corresponding voltage sag could be to blame. Consider shortening the ECU cable runs, reducing hydraulic loads if possible, and preventing pump stalls by increasing the acceleration limiter or not operating the pilot at very low speeds.

If the messages occur while in standby or immediately upon engaging even though the rudder is not at a stop, the issue could be noise on the "Accessory On" yellow wire. Be sure that the line is properly connected and that the GHC 10 (display for autopilot) and ECU share a common ground. A newer replacement ECU may be added to supply additional noise protection on the "Accessory On" wire.

To adjust the acceleration limiter the GHC (helm control) must first be put into Dealer Mode.  Directions are listed below.

        • The default settings is 66%
        • Increasing this setting will limit the turn rate of the autopilot
        • Deceasing this setting will allow the autopilot to make turns more sharply
