Hardwiring a Garmin Dash Cam Directly to a 12-Volt Power Source
It is not recommended to hardwire Garmin automotive products to a 12-volt power source unless using a specifically-designed, Garmin-made accessory with a compatible device. Hardwiring a device in any other way may cause damage. Damage incurred in this way is not covered under warranty.
- Garmin Dash Cam devices can be powered by a Constant Power Cable accessory that provides power from your vehicle's OBD-II port. This cable is easily self-installed.
- These Garmin Dash Cam devices can also be powered by a Parking Mode Cable with USB-C connector accessory which hardwires the dash cam to a power source. Garmin strongly recommends having the Parking Mode cable professionally installed.

Concerns of using other power cables (outside of getting enough power) is that the cable may not be capable of providing a clean power signal to the device. This could affect the overall performance for all features to work.
When hard-wiring a device to a vehicle's battery, the dash cam may constantly be drawing and draining power from the vehicle.
If a device is not covered by the options above, it should never be hardwired under any circumstances.
