Are You Selling or Giving Away Your Device?
You may be selling or giving your device away and that is okay, but be sure to cancel your service and reset your device for the new owner/user. Resetting is typically found under Settings/Setup > Recovery/Restore.
If there is another reason and you would like to discuss your options to avoid service termination, contact Support. To continue canceling your service, follow the steps below.
Did You Know?
An active subscription service plan is required for SOS, text messaging and other important safety features. Canceling service may incur fees for early termination, and additional fees if you choose to activate again later.
Canceling Service for an inReach Satellite Communicator
NOTE: Canceling an Essential, Standard or Premium plan is effective immediately and any remaining prepayment for the current bill cycle is pro-rated and credited accordingly within 24 hours. If you choose to activate again later, you will be assessed another activation fee. If you are preparing a device for a transfer of ownership, but plan on activating a different device later, contact Garmin Services Billing to discuss your options. The process for canceling your service is the same whether the inReach device is suspended or active. Suspending a device does not allow for it to be transferred to another account.

Sending a Cancelation Request to Garmin Services Billing
Send your request to GarminServicesBilling@garmin.com. The request must state that you wish to cancel service, and also include the following:
Email address the service is under.
Billing address of the credit card used on the account.
IMEI number of the device.
Failure to submit the proper information can delay implementation of your cancelation.
Requests of cancelation will be processed and become effective within 2 business days of submission. Garmin is closed on weekends and holidays.
What Happens if I Cancel?
Canceling takes effect immediately and puts the inReach device in a "deactivated" state where it no longer functions on the Iridium satellite network. Any saved account data will still be available after canceling. If there is no activity on your Garmin account across all our sites and services for at least 2 years, your account may be deleted. For more details, see - Inactive Account Deletion. Devices have to be activated again in order to function on the Iridium satellite network and would incur an activation fee.
When canceling an Annual plan, at the option of Garmin, your account will either: (1) be billed at the time of cancelation for the remaining amounts due on your service plan -or- (2) be billed for an amount equal to the fees for the remaining term of the service plan at the lowest available rate.
During the cancelation process you will be informed of any approximate costs due to you. If you miss this, our billing team can provide an estimation, or a final amount once the current billing cycle is finished.
If you decide you want to activate again later, you will be assessed another activation fee.
Existing Freedom Plan Users1
inReach Freedom subscription plans are no longer available for new inReach activations, and you will not be able to return to your previous plan once it has been canceled.
If you want to continue on a Freedom service plan again later, choose to Suspend instead.1
1As of September 18, 2024, both the Annual and Freedom versions of Safety, Recreation, and Expedition plans are no longer available for purchase. All Existing Freedom plan users will be able to suspend and reactivate their service until their next annual renewal date unless they change to one of our newer plan options or cancel their subscription. All existing Annual plan users can remain in their plan until they change to one of our newer plan options or cancel their subscription. If you are unsure which plan you are on, you can check under Current Plan on the Home tab of your Garmin Explore web account.
