Automotive Devices Calculate an Indirect Route when Crossing the US/Canada Border

A Detailed Video Tutorial Discussing Route Settings is Available Below:

When starting in the United States and entering a destination in Canada, or vice versa, your automotive device may calculate a very long or inefficient route to your destination. This route may use a border crossing point that is far away, even when there is a much closer border crossing that can be used instead.

This behavior occurs when the Toll Roads or Tolls and Fees avoidance is selected in the navigation settings of your device. Of the numerous border crossing points between the United States and Canada, many will charge drivers a toll when used. If your device is set to avoid tolls, then it may calculate a route using toll-free border crossing points only, the nearest of which may still be very far away from your current position.

For steps to disable the toll road avoidance, refer to your device's owners' manual.
