I Am Having Issues or Not Receiving Text Messages with My Automotive Device After Updating to iOS 13 or newer on My iPhone

With the release of iOS 13 and newer, permission settings to allow your Garmin device to communicate with your phone have changed. If you are experiencing an issue after updating your phone, review the following topics which should solve most issues.

The Garmin Drive App Displays the Message "Bluetooth must be enabled on this device in order to connect"

iOS 13 and newer requires Bluetooth Sharing to be turned on for the Garmin Drive App. 


To Enable Bluetooth Sharing:

1. From the Garmin Drive App, touch Settings

2. Toggle Bluetooth on

NOTE: For the best user experience with your Garmin device and your phone, the Location setting should be set to Always and all toggles should be set to on.


I Am No Longer Getting Smart Notifications on My Garmin Device

To correct this issue, follow the steps below:


Check Bluetooth Settings:

1. From the iPhone, touch Settings

2. Touch Bluetooth

 

3. Under MY DEVICES touch the "i" icon next to your device's BLE connection

4. Toggle Share System Notifications to on


Check Notification Settings:

1. From the iPhone, touch Settings

2. Touch Notifications

3. Touch Show Previews

 

4. Select Always or When Unlocked

5. Under NOTIFICATION STYLE select an app you want to receive notifications from

 

6. Toggle Allow Notifications on, ALERTS options should all be checked, and Show Previews must be set to Always (Default) or When Unlocked as shown below:

 

NOTE: With iOS 13 and newer, Apple now requires Show Previews to be set to Always or When Unlocked to get notifications on any connected device.

7. Repeat steps 5-6 for all apps you want to receive notifications from
