Understanding the inReach Address

The inReach® Address is not an email address, and is only used to send messages from one inReach device to another inReach device.

How is the inReach Address Determined?

An inReach address is automatically assigned and usually determined by the portion of email address used for creating the inReach account prior to the @, also known as the local-part.

  • Example: If your email is peanut.butter@chocolate.com, then the inReach Address assigned to the account may end up being peanut.butter@inreach.garmin.com.

In cases where there is already another inReach account using an identical local-part, a number is typically added to the inReach address at the end of the local-part (ie. peanut.butter1@inreach.garmin.com)

The only way the inReach address can change once assigned is if the email address on the inReach account is changed, but there is no guarantee of this happening. For more information, see - How to Change an inReach Email Address.
