SPO_SERIALPORT.CPP error in MapSource

Description

The SPO_SERIALPORT.CPP error message is due to a communications disruption between the application and the GPS. This can be caused by an older version of MapSource® mapping software, a Windows or third party process interfering with the computer's communications port, or a hardware issue. Updating MapSource software and ending the processes known to interfere may correct the problems.

Resolution

Download MapSource program to install the latest version of the application.

To end any processes known to interfere with MapSource software:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc
  2. Click More details at the bottom of the window if present (Windows 8 and newer only)
  3. Click on the Processes or Details tab
  4. Locate any of these processes:
    • Activesync
    • Hotsync
    • BBDVMonitor
    • Besmonitor
    • Intercept
    • LVCOMM
    • Tablet
    • UPS
    • WCESComm
    • WCESMgr
    • WeatherPak
    • x10net
    • ZUNE
  5. Right-click the process and select End Process or End Task1
  6. Click Yes to confirm

Once the MapSource program is up to date and any interfering processes have ended, the error message should disappear. If the error persists, there may be a hardware problem. Replace the serial interface cable and/or try another computer with a Serial Port to establish communication with the GPS device.

1 The processes will start up when the computer is restarted
