My Xero X1i is Not Ranging a Target

There are a few reasons you may be having trouble ranging a target with the Xero® X1i crossbow scope. Please review each option below to better calibrate the scope for use.

Trigger Button Depressed Off-Target

The Xero X1i scope scans the range of a target the entire time the button is depressed. If you are ranging a target at a known distance but the scope is returning a longer or shorter distance than it should, it may be due to the trigger button being held down while moving off target. To avoid this, ensure the trigger button is immediately released once the target has been ranged to get the correct aim point.

Mount Needs to be Tightened

Even after initial calibration is completed, it is a good idea to check the tightness of mount screws to see if they have loosened and need to be adjusted and re-tightened to ensure there is no movement. For more information, please view the owner's manual.

How Reflective is the Target?

Garmin developed the 250-yard range to game targets specification based on the reflectivity of a whitetail deer. If the desired target is less reflective than a whitetail deer, the effective range of the range finder may be reduced. For example, black is the least reflective of all colors. Dull or dark surfaces, as well surfaces that disperse infrared (non-visible) light, will also be more challenging to range.

As an example, a thick-coated black bear is going to be one of the hardest to range at extended distances. However, an animal with a dark coat with shine to it, like a moose, is going to reflect light more efficiently and improve range finder performance
